After performing exceptionally well at the box office during its opening weekend, The Best Man Holiday is slated to get a sequel. Universal has decided to turn this Best Man franchise into a trilogy after the film's premiere weekend brought in an incredible haul of $30 million against the $17 million it took to make the film. Of course, the demand for another sequel is expected to lead to contract negotiations for the actors who have not yet signed on for another film.

Writer and director Malcolm D. Lee is now in talks to make the sequel for Universal, but this means he hasn't even started the writing process yet. Though The Best Man Holiday came out 16 years after the first film, The Best Man, we shouldn't expect the same timeframe for the next installment. Universal is hoping to get this new movie out to fans as soon as possible thanks to the incredible box office numbers and domestic gross.

Deadline reports:

The $17 million sequel had the fifth-largest opening for an R-rated romantic comedy, the second-highest opening for an urban romantic comedy and the sixth-biggest opening for an urban-themed film overall. It also received an A+ CinemaScore across all quadrants.

Cast members including Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, and Sanaa Lathan are expected to ask for more money with this upcoming sequel, which could lead to negotiation problems we've seen with countless other film projects.

Are you excited for this sequel? Should we expect another themed movie or do you have other hopes for the third Best Man installment?
