Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran landed an amazing gig when he was asked to write a new song for the soundtrack of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, especially since he is an admitted fan of the films and books. Sheeran wrote "I See Fire" for the epic tale, now in theaters, but he recently revealed that he almost blew the chance to work on the film. According to a new interview, the 2013 Red tour opener was very drunk when asked to write the song and could've easily lost the opportunity!

"I was off my face drunk. There was a lot of champagne and champagne gets me drunk quite quickly. I looked at my email. It was like a dream. I didn't process it. So then I put my phone away and continued partying," Ed Sheeran told The Daily Star.

Luckily, the singer eventually answered the e-mail after coming down from partying and recorded the track.

He announced his new song and involvement with the soundtrack on Twitter back in November.

"I very happy to announce I have written and recorded the end credits song for the new Hobbit movie 'The Desolation of Smaug.' It goes live on iTunes later tonight, stand by for the links later on," he said in a series of tweets. "The song is called 'I See Fire'."

He added: "I got the chance to produce and play all the instruments on it apart from the cello. Managed to learn violin for a day, hope you all dig it."
