Cate Blanchett took home the BAFTA for Best Actress this week, and in her acceptance speech she dedicated her win to the recently deceased Philip Seymour Hoffman in a moving tribute.

Blanchett won for her role in Blue Jasmine, beating out Amy Adams (American Hustle), Emma Thompson (Saving Mr Banks), Judi Dench (Philomena) and Sandra Bullock (Gravity). Though she was grateful for the honor, she paid tribute to Hoffman instead of thanking a long list of people. It was a great way to accept the award and an amazing tribute to the late actor.

"I would like to dedicate this to an actor who has been a continual, profound touchstone for me, a monumental presence who is now so sadly in absence: the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman," Blanchett stated.

The audience was clearly moved by her speech, applauding the tribute as she spoke.

"Phil, your monumental talent, your generosity, and your unflinching quest for truth both in art and in life will be missed by - not only me - but by so many people," she said. "You raised the bar continually so very, very high and I guess all we can do in your absence is to try and raise it continually through our work."

The award-winner concluded her moving speech, saying: "Phil, buddy, this is for you, you bastard, hope you're proud."
