Amy Adams this week was invited on as a guest of Inside the Actor's Studio for her commendable work, including her current Oscar nominated role in American Hustle. Some of Adams' best performances happened to be in films featuring the recently deceased Philip Seymour Hoffman, so questions soon turned to him and the loss of the actor. Adams, fighting back tears the best she could, spoke openly about her friend Phil, offering one of the most emotional recollections of the actor so far.

Philip and Amy worked on the films Doubt (for which Adams received her second Oscar nomination) and The Master. She attended the funeral for Hoffman this month as the two were close friends from working together.

On the show this week, host James Lipton paused briefly to announce to the crowd and the viewers that, in bringing up the film Doubt, that they had "arrived at a difficult moment," for himself, Adams and the craft of acting.

Due to the nature of Hoffman's death, many have condemned the actor's legacy in a way, saying that we shouldn't hold him in such high regard. But hearing Adams speak about him as an actor and a person makes those negative comments disappear in a way.

At this point, Adams had already been welling up with emotion, knowing that she'd have to answer questions about Hoffman. Explaining that she loved him, Amy Adams said, "he had this unique ability to see people, to really see them - not look through them - he just really saw people."
