Michael Sam was one of the most impressive defensive ends in NCAA, but he recently came out to the world before the 2014 NFL Draft, making himself one of the most talked about players. He was tipped to be a late-round pick, and late in the 7th round the St. Louis Rams made history by drafting Michael Sam, making him the first openly-gay player to be drafted in to the NFL.

Sam and his boyfriend celebrated the announcement with a kiss on video, showing his pre-draft announcement has truly allowed him to be himself, and perhaps this will make him an even more dangerous, lethal DE to help the Rams. Without a doubt, he was one of the best DE available, but falling in to the 7th round just shows how strong the class of 2014 are.

Sam capped off an impressive set of picks for the Rams, who have now two years of solid draft picks helping their team in their rebuilding plans. Can the Rams now push for the playoffs? The Rams are bit by bit progressing and they have a roster full of youthful, explosive talents.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher seemed ecstatic to get their man, and there's no doubt that Sam can transform their defensive presence and make them an all-round better team. Some believe Sam could've been a first-round selection if he'd shown a bit more consistency, so the Rams could well find themselves picking up a great talent for little money at little risk.

How good can Sam be, and will his announcement make him twice the player he would've been otherwise?
