Mindy Kaling is a hopeless romantic, well at least her character Mindy Lahiri in The Mindy Project is, and that's why we love her. In season two of the show, Mindy and Danny Castellano (played by Chris Messina) finally became and item and this season they aren't going to break up just to add drama to the Fox comedy.

Executive producer and star Mindy Kaling stopped by Huffington Post Live on Friday and revealed that just because breaking up would cause more drama, doesn't mean that's the direction season three is going. Spoiler alert: Mindy and Danny are actually dating in season three and it's going to be full of funny and romantic moments.

"We were really excited to see what these two super different characters would be like together. A lot of shows I think break characters up for no reason because the show has to last for seven or eight years," Mindy told HuffPost.

"We thought, no. People can still be interesting when they are together. He's 40, she's 34. They just want to make it work," she added.

In the season two finale Danny and Mindy rekindled their brief romance and finally put each other first. They met on top of the Empire State Building with moments from iconic romantic comedies such as When Harry Met Sally mixed in for the perfect makeup.

In season three, the duo will get to explore what it's like to be in a relationship without the annoying, "will they, won't they" debate hanging their heads.

"At the beginning of a show you want to keep yourself open-minded as to where it's going to go and there was no feeling even in the middle of season two that we thought, 'Should we get them together?' We didn't know as writers. We wanted to see what people's reactions were," Mindy said.

Executive producer, Matt Warburton agrees with Mindy's thought process about the onscreen couple and revealed their teams' thought process going forward in an exclusive interview with TV Line.

"Our internal feeling was, 'Look, we know the stories we want to tell. A lot of them are going to be when Mindy and Danny are a couple and what that's going to look like to people. Because it's one of those relationships that only gets more interesting when the people are together because the characters are so different from each other," Matt explained to the publication.

Season three begins on Tuesday and Danny and Mindy are officially together. We can wait to see the hilarious "grown up" relationship unfold.
