Bridesmaids has become a cult classic since it first hit theaters in 2011. The hilarious flick featured the hilarious Maya Rudolf (as Lillian), Kristen Wiig (as Annie Walker), Melissa McCarthy (as Megan) and Rose Byrne (as Helen). But who was The Mindy Project's leading lady, Mindy Kaling supposed to play?

While promoting season three of her show The Mindy Project (which premieres tomorrow night on Fox), Mindy stopped by Bravo's Watch What Happens Live on Sunday and revealed that she was up for one of the key roles in the hilarious bridal flick.

"No one ever calls me in to audition for things because I'm so specific," Mindy said.

In regards to Bridesmaids Mindy revealed, "[It] was a movie I loved. It was for Maya Rudolph's part. I practiced it so much and was so into it and I loved that whole cast. That was one that was a heartbreaker."

Mindy as the bride in Bridesmaids? That would have been amazing, but the film is perfect they way it is, so we're glad the part went to Maya.

In typical Mindy fashion, the comedian cracked a joke to the show's host, Andy Cohen saying that she's been offered numerous serious roles, but politely turned them down. "Like 12 Years a Slave. I was like, 'I can't do it! Tell [Lupita Nyong'o] to do it. I don't have the time.' [Michael Fassenbender] was mad, It was a thing," E! Online reported.

As for the future of Bridesmaids, although there have been talks about a hilarious sequel, co-writer and star Kristen Wiig finally spoke out about the rumor while on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last week.

When host, Ellen DeGeneres asked if she would do another Bridesmaids film, she set the record straight once and for all. "No, I think it's OK to have it just be what it was," Kristen told Ellen.

"I appreciate that people want us to do another one, but it's just something we knew when we did the first one. It just felt very special and fun."

Even though there won't be another Bridesmaids, Kristen revealed that she is writing something new with her writing partner Annie Mumolo. With this team back together, we're sure it's going to be funny.
