‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Actress Sasha Alexander To Guest Star On ‘Shameless’

Rizzoli & Isles just wrapped its fifth season, but that doesn't mean actress Sasha Alexandra is going to rest in her off time. The 41-year-old actress is already set to film a guest spot on Shameless.

Sasha landed a role as a recurring guest star for multiple episodes on Showtime's hit drama Shameless as a part of its upcoming fifth season according to Entertainment Weekly.

"The Rizzoli & Isles star will play Helene, one of Lip's college professors. Confident and erudite, Helene has a wild side-which is new territory for Alexander in comparison to her role on Rizzoli," Entertainment Weekly reported.

Sasha will begin filming her guest spot next week, which is only one week after wrapping the most current season of her TNT hit, Rizzoli & Isles. The actress plays Dr. Maura Isles, the chief medical examiner for the Boston police department. She is the best friend to Detective Jane Rizzoli (played by Angie Harmon).

After five seasons of crime solving, Angie and Sasha have learned that their success is due to the fact that they let their fans grow with their characters and that they didn't force them to like them right away.

"One thing that I've always liked about our show and feel helped in the beginning was that the audience has been growing with the girls and gotten to know them as they've gotten to know each other. When we started the show, they weren't besties who grew up together. They're individuals doing their jobs really well," Sasha told Yahoo. "We didn't force the audience. Don't you love them? Aren't they cute because they dress the same way? [Instead the audience] has been part of that process."

The dynamic crime-solving duo are friends in real life as well, but that doesn't mean they always agree on things, especially when it comes to fashion.

"We were in rehearsal and I look down in literally the middle of the scene and I'm like, 'Listen, Maura, you, um, what are those?' I completely came out of character when I saw her shoes. She's like, 'They're Birkenstocks.' I'm like, 'No, those have to go. You can't wear those ever again. I can't even rehearse with you right now,'" Angie recalled when talking to Yahoo in 2013.
