Criminal Minds returns for its 10th season tonight, and there's a lot to know before we head back to the BAU in Virginia.

After nine crime-filled, serial-killer focused and completely insane seasons, this year there are few new things to prepare for.

1.     Garcia is going to have a rough road ahead.

Last season, Garcia (Kristen Vangsness) shot a pseudo-nurse in order to save Reid's life, and as a result she will be dealing with some inner demons. According to producer Erica Messer, Garcia will get a little closure when she meets with the guy she shot in prison, but it will be a long road back to her perky self.

"[Meeting him] will certainly help, but I don't think you move on from traumatic events completely, so it will come up here and there. Morgan and Hotch really try to help her," Messer told TV Guide.

2.     There will be a season-long unsub again this season.

It has only been done one time before — during Season 8, with The Replicator — but this season will follow a yearlong unsub while other crimes are solved.

According to TV Guide, the unsub will be introduced at the end of tonight's season premiere.

"The unsub is only part of the puzzle. It will culminate in the finale. We try to break our last two episodes of the year as a movie. We know pretty much how Part 1 would end and how the finale would end. You'll probably think one thing [after you see the premiere], but it's bigger than you think," Messer revealed to the publication.

3.     Jennifer Love Hewitt is joining the cast.

After Blake's (Jeanne Tripplehorn) sudden exit last season, CBS is adding a fresh face to the BAU team: Ghost Whisperer alumna Jennifer Love Hewitt. Jennifer sat down with Entertainment Weekly and opened up about her new role as FBI Agent Kate Callahan on the crime drama.

"Kate is a really interesting woman. She comes to the BAU with her own experience, which I like. I wasn't quite sure at first if I was going to be a newbie who hadn't done this before. When they told me about her, I was really excited that she comes with her own background and talent," Jennifer told EW.

"She had met the BAU team before in an interesting way, which they talk about in my first episode. It's fun how they've all run into each other one other time before Kate gets added to the team. She has a lot of gumption. She's very feisty. If she's afraid of a bad guy, she doesn't show it. She enjoys her job. She really enjoys understanding these people better and getting them put away."

4.     Jane Lynch might be returning.

Diehard Criminal Minds fans will remember that Glee actress Jane Lynch played Reid's schizophrenic mom Diana and has appeared in numerous episodes in the past. Unfortunately, she has been missing in action for six seasons.

The good news? She might be making a comeback this season.

"The thing that brings her back can't be sad and heartbreaking. We've seen that already," Messer explained to TV Guide about the possible storylines they are working on for Jane's character. "We need to have a big splash to bring her back, and we want to arc out what that could be."

5.     There will be a big thank you to fans.

As an ode to seasons past and the amazing fan base that has followed the show for nine seasons, Messer revealed that there will be a midseason thank you to fans.

It will be similar to the 200th episode last season and will possibly feature some old faces.

"I can't talk about it yet, but I've got an idea. It's going to be a giant team episode because those are my favorite. It's going to be a love letter to fans who've been with us all 10 years," she revealed.
