‘Once Upon A Time’ Creators Tease Regina’s Storyline For Season Four Including Her 'Frozen' Arc

ABC's hit fairytale show Once Upon a Time is currently in its fourth season and now the show's creators are teasing what's in store for Regina/Evil Queen (played by Lana Parrilla) this season.

With the entrance of Frozen character Elsa and her continued storyline, the Evil Queen, also known as Regina, has been nowhere near the Frozen action. Instead she has been plotting a way to figure out who the real author of Henry's storybook is. Plus, she is dealing with the fact that Robin Hood's wife is now back in his life. That doesn't mean, however, that she won't eventually interact with the new Frozen characters.

"An important thing for fans to know is that while we are telling this arc with the Frozen characters, we are in no way leaving the arcs of characters like Regina aside," creator Adam Horowitz told TV Line during the season four premiere event. "We still want to explore them," he added.

Co-creator Eddy Kitsis explained that Regina's addition to the Frozen storyline is great, but she still has a lot of solo storylines that are going to be explored this season. "The plan we have for Regina this season is one of my favorites ... Although she is a part of the Frozen storyline [and] is affected by it, she also has a few arcs of her own that we're introducing at the beginning of this season, so I think fans should wait and see what that is," Eddy told TV Line.

Now that Regina has to deal with Robin Hood's wife being back in the picture, her journey through this relationship drama will be a main focus this season. Usually she would just kill anyone who caused her pain, but she has grown a lot since season one, so her struggle to remain good will be much harder.

"So we have three years of evolution for this character. Now she's faced with her first real emotional setback. Not a plot setback but an emotional one. So for us it was a question of, 'How does she deal with it?' Eddy told Variety about Regina's Robin Hood storyline.

Regina has become multidimensional and even more interesting as a character. For the most part her Evil Queen past is behind her and her Regina, mother to Henry side, is shining through. Plus, this season she will continue to bond with Henry in a way that only Emma Swan has been able to do before.

"And another thing that we're really excited about is, Regina's story is not just Robin Hood. We have seen Henry in the past with Operation Cobra with Emma, but he is going to be in a new operation with Regina this year that is actually going to [last] the whole year," he explained to the publication.

Once Upon a Time airs on Sundays on ABC.
