'Top Chef' Host Padma Lakshmi And 'Pretty Woman' Actor Richard Gere Call It Quits

After six months of dating the Top Chef host, Padma Lakshmi and actor Richard Gere have called it quits.

An insider told Us Weekly in April that, "It started very recently and quietly. It's very new ... I wouldn't even go as far as calling them a couple. They are dating. It's the first time Padma has dated anyone since Teddy [Forstmann, until his death in 2011], and it's something she's been approaching very, very delicately."

The Pretty Woman actor, 64, and Padma, 44, kept their relationship as private as can be, avoiding photographs together and interviews about their relationship. The report of their breakup came from the New York Post's Page Six, with a source saying the couple "decided they would be better as friends."

Lakshmi was married to novelist Salman Rushdie, 23 years her senior. The couple were married in 2004 and ultimately divorced in 2007. The host has a daughter, Krishna, with venture capitalist Adam Dell. When Lakshmi started dating Teddy, Princess Diana's ex-financier, he left her daughter an undisclosed amount of money to Krishna.

Gere and Lakshmi have been reported to have dated during his divorce from his long-standing wife, actress and model Carey Lowell. The former couple has a son, Homer James Jigme Gere, 14. Gere was formerly married to supermodel Cindy Crawford from 1991-95.

We can officially say Gere has it in for the model type!

To spark rumors, Padma recently announced on TV that she was single. She had an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and another appearance on NBC's Today, but she didn't mention her split from Gere.
