While the news around Neil Patrick Harris being named as the host of the Academy Awards ceremony in 2015 is pretty exciting news, this week we've learned that the How I Met Your Mother star will get his own weekly hosting duties on NBC in a new variety show! Fans of the Tony Award winner have surely been waiting for the actor to land such a gig, so we're happy to also inform you that the new series will take its queues from the UK variety show Saturday Night Takeaway. Though it won't use the show's title (or weekend night time airing), the Harris-led show is sure to garner plenty of attention once it airs.

"As I watched the show, I couldn't stop smiling. Now that I've seen many seasons, my face hurts. It's a game changer," Harris said of the UK show, according to IGN. "Nothing like this has been done before, and it's unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!"

Harris is just coming off of a great year of Tony Awards and a great performance in David Fincher's Gone Girl, but we're so happy to see him returning to TV in such a great way.

"We have a natural affinity for this type of show. It's in our DNA," Paul Telegdy of NBC told Vulture. "There's a natural progression with this. This is something we felt was undeniably an NBC proposition."

He added: "We're not going to rush this. We'll take our time and make a great show."
