Dwight Howard, Adrian Peterson: NBA Child Abuse Law Battle To Hurt Houston Rockets's NBA Championship Push?

Sometimes things seem to be going a little too well, and that has most certainly been the case for the Houston Rockets. But star man Dwight Howard is now involved in an NBA child abuse battle, one that's alarmingly similar to Adrian Peterson's case. The Rockets are seen as a top contender to win the NBA championship, but with all this controversy surrounding their team, can they really keep their good spirits and good form going?

Rockets fans can relax, with the law declaring Howard as "not guilty" of breaking any rules, according to TMZ. His baby's mother, Royce Reed, made a complaint during the summer, saying he had whipped his son with a belt until bruises were left. He did confess to doing just that, but he claimed he was punished in that manner and did not realize there was anything wrong with the way he had punished his child.

Dwight's team hit back, explaining that he was trying to get custody of his son, and this was a plot to stop that from happening.

They explained, saying, "It's no coincidence that these false allegations were 'leaked' on the heels of Dwight filing for major custody of his son. It is troubling to see a mother use her son as a pawn against his father," and that the center will continue to do "whatever is necessary to protect [the child's] welfare and best interests."

Is this the end of his child abuse saga, or could it come back to haunt the Rockets and their title aspirations at a later date, according to Slam? For now, the Rockets can continue their form, but one will wonder if something will send them crashing down to earth sooner or later.
