It looks like HBO is gearing up to touch on the subject that we're all oh, so fascinated in: Scientology! It's being reported that the network will air a documentary that acts as an in-depth look at the Church of Scientology as well as its influence on some of the biggest names in Hollywood. The doc will be based on the book Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief, written by author Lawrence Wright, and will offer detailed explanations of the church doings, most of which have been revealed by longtime member (who famously left a couple of years ago) and Academy Award-winning writer-director Paul Haggis. Perhaps they're looking for some other type of ratings before the Game of Thrones Season 5 premiere?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the famed pay cable network will air the documentary sometime in 2015, after premiering it at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

As if we had to mention, it's undoubted that HBO will receive a whole heap of blowback from airing the documentary. Rolling Stone points out that back in 1998, members of the church protested outside of the network's New York offices after the network aired Dead Blue: Surviving Depression, which "supported the use of antidepressant drugs." Apparently this is a big no-no to Scientologists.

On the possible protests, HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins told THR, "We have probably 160 lawyers [looking at the film]."

So, is it safe to say that if Scientologists got all uppity over a documentary that really had little, if anything, to do with Scientology, they're going to have a complete fit from HBO's Going Clear documentary? Probably so.

Something tells us HBO can handle it, however. After all, we imagine they do have the Game of Thrones weapons (or replicas) stored somewhere within their offices.

Readers, what are your thoughts on the upcoming Scientology documentary? Will you be tuning in?
