Could Houston Texan JJ Watt become only the third defensive player to win the NFL's MVP award? That's the chatter around the NFL as the Texans lineman put up another dominant display on the weekend, scoring his fifth touchdown of the year to go with his 11.5 sacks, and prompting the Houston crowd to chant "M-V-P, M-V-P" for the defensive behemoth.

The only thing that could realistically stop him? The Texans's 6-6 record which, compared to other MVP frontrunners such as Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Richard Sherman, DeMarco Murray and Tom Brady, isn't quite good enough to guarantee a winning season, let alone a playoff berth.

Either way, during the Houston Texans's 45-21 smackdown of the Tennessee Titans Sunday, Nov. 30, the Texans's fans made their preference clear, chanting out the accolade for the defensive lineman.

It didn't hurt that Watt scored his third offensive touchdown of the year on a redzone throw from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. It's talk, though, that Watt doesn't sound too concerned about. As houstontexans.com reported, he told gathered press after Sunday's game that he will "appreciate" any MVP talk, but that he's not going to campaign on his own behalf.

"The thing that I'll continue to say is that people can vote how they want," he explained. "They get to have their own opinions. I can't control anybody's opinion."

He added that the only thing he can control — other than the line of scrimmage, seemingly — is to "go out there and play as hard as I can play, make as many plays as I can make, and try to help my team win football games, and if people feel like I should be in consideration for an award, then feel free to vote for me."

"It is a blast. There's no greater feeling than scoring a touchdown and seeing your teammates coming to congratulate you ... It's the best feeling in the entire world."

The problem, still, is that MVP candidates like Rodgers, Manning and Brady all have the ball in their hands for the most amount of time possible. Even with Watt's dominance — along with Murray and Sherman's brilliance — it will seemingly take a brave MVP voter to give it up for Watt.

Watt's teammates, however, were also rushing to talk up his MVP chances, as CBS Houston reported that Watt's Texan teammate, safety and fellow initial-lover D.J. Swearinger, believes he's deserving of the award.

"J.J. is the heart and soul of our team and he's playing great," Swearinger said. "He's the man. He deserves the MVP. You won't find another defensive lineman with five touchdowns."

It does't stop there. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins also believes Watt is the league's most valuable weapon, telling ESPN "He's the MVP, man, hands down. When was the last time you've seen a defensive end have as many touchdowns or make the kinds of catches he's made?"

As nfl.com's Kevin Patra points out, Watt is the first defensive player to score at least three offensive and two defensive touchdowns in a single season. You can watch them all here.

And, don't forget, Watt has still got four games to go.

What do you think? Does JJ Watt deserve consideration for the NFL's MVP, even as a defensive player? Who's having a better season than the Houston Texan? Comment below!
