Will Chase Opens Up About Playing Rayna's Other Man Luke Wheeler In 'Nashville' This Season

This season Luke Wheeler's storyline has been getting bigger and more twisted on Nashville. Will Chase, who plays Luke, is opening up about being the other man in Rayna's life this season as his character prepares to wed the lead character.

There has been a constant back-and-forth fight between Rayna's leading men this whole season. Currently Rayna is set to marry Luke, but Deacon still holds a special place in her heart.

"It's funny. Even with Deacon (played by Charles Esten) and all of his demons, fans demonize Luke, who has done absolutely nothing wrong. Like, I'm not a freakin' mess! I'm not a bad guy!" Will revealed in his People blog.

"Deacon keeps coming and will keep coming. I think Rayna (played by Connie Britton) might feel a little bit like she's selling out. I like that it's messy rather than it being a maniacal mustache-twirling thing. Even with Deacon's faults, it doesn't mean he can't be good for Rayna. Fans are pretty outspoken with their love for that relationship."

On Wednesday's episode Rayna told Deacon to move on yet again, but it's not over until it's over when it comes to true love. That being said Will revealed that Luke will not always keep his cool when it comes their relationship.

"I do like it when Luke gets mad. There are a couple of moments coming. Because it's maddening, the Deacon thing is maddening to him. Fans are going to do what they are going to do. I don't really care whether they like Luke or not. I can only play what I'm given!" the 44-year-old actor explained to the publication.

Will also opened up about one of his favorite storylines so far this season. "I like the way they're playing out the Will (played by Chris Carmack) story. Something socially apropos will happen for Will so he's not stuck living this life alone. It's been hard to watch but you realize that intolerance still exists hardcore," he revealed.

"Chris is so lovely and so beautiful in those moments — to see that pain. Luke doesn't know about his sexuality for the time being, but as much as he is a good 'ol boy, he is also a man of the world. He'll accept Will. Luke has a good moral compass."
