This week's episode of Nashville was full of heartbreak and change. "Two Sides to Every Story" revealed Rayna's Rolling Stone cover and a taste of her family's Christmas plans.

The episode begins with Rayna and Luke filming a Christmas special as Maddie and Daphne watch. Meanwhile, Deacon and Scarlett are putting up their tree as Zoey sleeps on their couch, trying to get over her breakup with Gunnar.

In the music world, Gunnar is meeting with Sadie and they are working on a new song together. Sadie reveals she can get her manager to look a Gunnar's band at the Winter Nashfest event if he can help her get a good producer for her album. Gunnar suggests Avery as the producer, and she's really happy with his choice.

As Avery talks to Gunnar on the phone about Sadie, he calls her hot as Juliette walks up to him for their doctor's appointment. After overhearing that he thinks someone is hot, she gets jealous and starts to stalk him.

In preparation for Winter Nashfest, Scarlett is promoting Terrance and helping him make his comeback in music. Meanwhile, Will and Layla are just searching for somewhere they can go to escape their annoying reality show fans. They choose the festival because, according to Will, "East Nashville is the land of hipsters!"

Back at Rayna's house, Deacon stops by to give Maddie her last guitar lesson of the year because Rayna's clan is going to Australia for Christmas in a couple days. Despite the awkwardness between everyone, Deacon and Rayna chat as usual and he tells her he hopes she still has all her real decorations because he likes all her Christmas stuff.

Later that day, Rayna gets an advance copy of her Rolling Stones article and it doesn't paint her relationship with Deacon in the best light. She attempts to contact Deacon to warn him, but by the time she leaves him numerous messages, he has already read it and is pissed. He cannot believe she sold their personal story.

At the festival, Scarlett tracks Avery down and sees him talking to Sadie and she freaks out. She causes a scene and costs him the producer job. Avery is not happy with her and leaves to meet his band, who has decided to perform that day even though Gunnar and Zoey are no longer an item.

In another part of the festival Layla is finally being herself playing music in a random tent when Jeff hears her and is impressed. After she stops singing, they actually sit down and have a real discussion about her music, and in a rare occurrence they both are likeable characters. Jeff even plays guitar for her and it's great.

Back at Rayna's, the Christmas special is still filming when Deacon comes to give Maddie her Christmas present. Before Rayna can talk to him, he leaves and she runs after him. Even though she tries to apologize and explains it was all to protect Maddie, he's hurt that she would throw their personal moments together to the vultures of the press.

In a quick switch back to the festival, Scarlett prepares for Terrance to take the stage after an interview, which ends with questions about his family, which Scarlett is upset about. After Terrance performs — and kicks butt — he runs off stage after flashing back to the last time he performed and his family died. Scarlett runs after him.

Meanwhile, Gunnar, Avery and Zoey talk to Sadie's manager, who wants them to start going on tour ASAP and they haven't even performed yet. Even though they are all excited, Gunnar now has Micah, so he starts to argue with Zoey in front of the man and things get awkward. Later, the ex-couple argues more and Zoey leaves.

When Scarlett finds Terrance, he's drunk and hanging out with his homeless friends. He tells her to stop pushing what she wants on him. He calls her a coward and tells her to go back on stage since that is clearly what she wants. After crying and storming off, Scarlett takes his advice and tells Gunnar and Avery she'll sing with them.

The trio takes the stage and they are amazing! As they sing, Micah and Sadie's manager rock out in the front row. It's awesome to see Gunnar, Avery and Scarlett reunited on stage. The only sad part is that Zoey sees it on the big screen as she gets into a taxi.

In Rayna's world, she finds her girls trying to bake Christmas cookies because they miss that they haven't done any of their traditional holiday stuff due to the Christmas special. Rayna promises them that the next day she'll cook with them. Later that night she tells Luke she needs to make it better with Deacon and goes to see him.

When Rayna arrives at Deacon's house, he's putting up his Christmas lights. She apologizes again and tells him that everything that was always important to her, including him, still is. He reveals that he's mad because he knows the article is right and he can't move on. When she asks why not, he simply says that he still loves her! Rayna tells him to move on once and for all and then leaves.

The next day Avery stops by Juliette's house and thanks her for talking to Sadie and getting him the job. They both clearly still have feelings for one another, but they are happy with their current friendship. Meanwhile, Gunnar gets a call from the manager but again turns down touring because of Micah, which is unfortunate.

When Will wakes up at his house the next morning, after being turned down by a man the previous night, he goes to see Layla, but she isn't home. Layla is at Jeff's house in his bed! Plus, Zoey surprises everyone by leaving Nashville and heading to Los Angeles in the final moments of this week's episode.

On the last day of shooting their Christmas special, Luke and Rayna perform a Christmas duet together and it's really sweet. When all the cameras turn off, Rayna just stands there ... maybe thinking about Deacon? Meanwhile, Deacon pulls his old sticker of Rayna off his guitar case, and it's no longer looking good for the adorable couple.

Tune in next week for the midseason finale of Nashville to see what happens when Rayna gets ready to finally tie the knot.
