Season 4 of Person of Interest delivers the first part of its epic and action-packed trilogy on CBS. Now that Shaw (Sarah Shahi)'s cover has been blown, Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) have to protect her as Samaritan suddenly wants to meet with The Machine in 'The Cold War?'

The latest number is a woman who has been hit one too many times by her husband. She meets with Lambert, who understands the pain she is going through. Because she is innocent, Samaritan cause her husband's death, so she wont have to.

Lambert stands in front of a camera, telling the Machine and the agents that Samaritan wants to meet. An entire day has passed, with no crime absolutely in New York. Even Samaritan warns the police about a bomb threat, which Reese was about to stop.

In the flashbacks, young Greer (Emrhys Cooper) used to work for MI6 and was under orders to assassinate a KGB agent. Young Greer and his partner end up in a shootout with the KGB agent. With his partner dead, young Greer takes the KGB agent hostage.

The KGB agent reveals Young Greer's superior is actually a mole. Young Greer's boss is working for both sides, the KGB and MI6. Disillusioned with the system and riles, Young Greer decides to confront his boss.

The KGB agent was telling the truth; the boss is a traitor. No longer with MI6, Young Greer shoots his boss in the chest and puts one to his head. Young Greer takes his file out and burns his records, which allows him to disappear.

Samaritan decides to punch it up a notch and lets the crime rate spike. Detective Fusco (Kevin Chapman) is having problems of his own as a the names from the witness protection agency has been leaked. In the midst of a frantic police chase, Fusco is working with the feds, but is too late to prevent any deaths.

At the church, Root (Amy Acker) sits behind Lambert and points a gun behind his head. Martine has a gun pointed at the back of Root's head too. The Mexican standoff continues to get worse as Reese stands at the balcony, pointing his rifle at the three of them.

As ordered by Samaritan, Lambert then hands Root a set of directions. There are only two people allowed at this meeting spot. Before they leave, Martine points her finger at Reese and pretends to shoot at him.

Root arrives at her meeting spot and discovers Samaritans' avatar is a child prodigy. Root and the young boy debate about fallen gods and humanity. The Machine wants to give humanity free will but Samaritan believes they need to be forced under one role.

With Shaw missing, Samaritan decides to launch a virus on a full scale level. As Root wanders around Wall Street as the virus starts to infect stocks and trades. Right across the street, Greer (John Nolan) watches and smiles as Wall Street is about to fall apart.
