Rex Ryan and the New York Jets have failed to make the playoffs for four consecutive seasons, including this current miserable that finds the Jets at 3–12 and playing for draft picks. In that light, it wouldn't be a total surprise if Ryan is fired at season's end, despite the two AFC championship games on his resume. Current Jets quarterback Geno Smith said Monday that could be a good thing.

"A change could be good for us all, so if it happens — when it happens — then we'll see," Smith told ESPN.

Smith was the only player who didn't publicly support Ryan, with others sugarcoating the coach's horrible performance the past few seasons. The Jets finished tied for second in the AFC East in 2013, third in 2012 and second in 2011. 2014 could go down as the worst season for the team since 1996, according to ESPN.

NJ.com reports that Ryan is likely to go and that the players are expecting it. Smith went through a coaching change during his time at West Virginia, where he played well enough to mature into a second round draft pick. But the coach that recruited him to West Virginia, Bill Stewart, was fired a year into Smith's college career, according to NJ.com.

It is all about what you make it," Smith told ESPN. "I think the toughest part about it is being able to continue to play for the same coach, the same that you learn to love, you invest so much in and you believe in them. To resent and readjust is a tough thing to do, but we are professionals and we have to do it."

Smith could very well be out of a job also after another subpar season. The second year player lost his starting job after throwing 13 interceptions against just 10 touchdowns. Overall, he owns a 29.71 QBR and 10–18 career record as a starter. The Jets could be in the running to draft Heisman Trophy winners Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston.
