New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has gotten his team the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the NFL playoffs, and he's also just helped them try to win this coming offseason, restructuring his contract and sacrificing a potential $24 million in the process. As the Pats prepare for their playoff bye week - hosting the lowest seed remaining from the Indiana Colts vs Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens wildcard match-ups - Brady has given the Pats breathing room under next season's salary cap, which could be used to resign stars such as Darrelle Revis, Nate Solder and Shane Vereen. But, as some pundits point out, that's pretty easy to do when you're married to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen, who, according to Forbes, made $47 million last year.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the deal, saying that superstar Brady "changed the $24 million in 'skill' guarantee to only 'injury' guarantee, meaning that Brady now would get the guaranteed money only if he were injured."

It also means, says Scheffer, that the Patriots will now be able to release Brady at any point they choose, and not be on the hook for his remaining salary, as Brady will become and unrestricted free agent.

For the Patriots, says Schefter, it now gives them a lot more wiggle room under the NFL's salary cap to resign their own free agents, which include starry names such as top cornerback Darrell Revis, safety Devin McCourty, safety Nate Solder and pass-catching running back Shane Vereen.

Frank Schwab of Yahoo! Sports says he "wouldn't have blamed Brady if he had taken everything he had coming to him," but points out that, because he's married to the mega-bucks making Bundchen, "Brady could be the most well compensated player in the NFL and not match what his wife makes."

Maybe the Pats could also institute a swear jar on the sidelines to help make some walking around money?
