David Tennant On 'Doctor Who' & Peter Capaldi - 'Broadchurch' Star Talks Time-Lord Experience & Giving Tips To 2015 Doctor

David Tennant is a very busy actor these days, especially with the second season of Broadchurch premiering this week in the U.K. and later in March in the States, but he still loves talking about the show that made him a household names: Doctor Who. In case you were wondering what he thinks of Peter Capaldi as the 12^th Doctor on the BBC series, he wanted to set the record straight this week in a new interview! Speaking with a group of publications this week to promote Broadchurch, Tennant spoke about his own experience on Doctor Who and how he's definitely proud that he's known mostly for the time-traveling fantasy series.

"Then something like this comes along," he said regarding Broadchurch and its mass appeal over the world. "You have to regard yourself as very fortunate to be attached to two projects that grasped the national consciousness."

According to Radio Times (via The Mary Sue), the conversation turned to Capaldi and his current tenure as the Doctor.

"Of course I've seen him, he's fantastic," he said, then added in a joke: "I think it's illegal not to watch Doctor Who in this country, isn't it?"

"It clearly works. That character is defined by little other than whatever each individual brings to it," Tennant said. "It's great to see Peter bringing so much of him to it and running with it. You want to keep reinventing that character, taking it in different directions, that show is a very broad canvas."

Tennant also revealed that he's talked to Capaldi recently. So did he share any Doctor Who tips with him?

He revealed: "We've caught up a bit, but I didn't give him tips! How dare I give Peter Capaldi tips?!"
