Another DC Comics superhero is making their way onto your television screen, this time on CBS. In this latest round of casting news, though Claire Holt and Gemma Atkinson were in previous talks, Melissa Benoist has nabbed the lead role of Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El  aka Supergirl.

As we previously mentioned, the CBS superhero drama will follow the comic book adventures of Kara Zor-El. In the mythology, Kara Zor-El escaped from the planet Krypton before its destruction years ago, but became lost in space. Crash-landing onto Earth, Kara tries to control her superpowers as she maintains her secret identity as Clark Kent's relative.

IGN reports that the former Glee actress has officially been cast as the title character. Because CBS co-owns the CW network, audiences are left wondering if Supergirl shares the same universe with Arrow and The Flash. Is it possible for a crossover between all three superheroes? Depending on who you ask, executive producer Greg Berlanti would like to see it happen, but President of CBS, Nina Tassler, thinks it's a long shot.

We mentioned before, Supergirl has already received a pilot order and series commitment from CBS. Berlanti is executive producing and writing alongside Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family). Casting directors are also at work looking for the next Cat Grant, James "Jimmy" Olsen, Winslow Schott, and Hank Henshaw.

We will have to wait and see what theWhiplash actress looks like in costume, which is reportedly already done. There is sill no word yet on whether Superman or Clark Kent will actually show up on the TV series. But Syfy is looking into a Superman prequel entitled Krypton.

No word yet on when Supergirl will premiere on CBS.

Readers, are you excited to see Melissa Benoist as Superman's cousin?
