The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are back, but this time they're not here to save Angel Grove. Back on the internet for everyone to see, the band of teenage space-heroes have all grown up in the Joseph Kahn directed and Adi Shankar produced fan-film, Power/Rangers Bootleg, starring Katee Sackhoff, and James Van Der Beek.

As we previously mentioned, the short film explores the darker side of the Power Rangers story. In this gritty take of the children's franchise, the storyline explores the premise that these teenagers were forced into fighting an intergalactic war and have come out of the extraterrestrial battlefield suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome. This visually stunning flick manages to re-imagine and pays tribute to the first season of the children's television show.

Check out our 5 thoughts on Power/Rangers Bootleg here:

5) The Zords Are Actually Fighting!

If you've seen Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie, then you know most of the budget went to create the colossal bio-mechanical robots fighting in space. The only thing edgy in the movie, for both kids and adults, was when the Rangers introduce themselves to Ivan Ooze, who responds, "Well shut my mouth! And me without my autograph book!" We catch a glimpse of the Zords moving here at rapid-speed, causing all kinds of mayhem, in the short film.

4) Bulk And Skull Are The Big Bad!

Farkas "Bulk" Bulkmeier (Paul Schrier) and Eugene "Skull" Skullovitch (Jason Narvy), were the bullies on the show. Skull was the one who had the high-pitched laugh, which you hear in the video. These two aren't the comic relief anymore, they got sick and tired of being humiliated.

3) Hip Hop Kido

On the show, Zack Taylor (Walter Emanuel Jones) mixed dancing and his fighting style, calling it, "Hip Hop Kido." It's a nice throwback to the character, who now makes money off of his skills through informercials. I loved that the Black Ranger has the best fight scene, a one-take action sequence, with General Klank (Will Yun Lee).

Bonus: The original Rocky DeSantos (played Steve Cardenas) was written off the show after Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. Rocky had to retire from his Ranger duties due to an injury. The robotic leg is a nice touch to keep in continuity that Rocky (now played by CSI: Cyber actor) was previously injured and to show this is a distant future

2) Billy's Back

The writers mixed real life and fiction with Billy Cranston, the former Blue Ranger. According to TV Guide, David Yost, the openly gay actor, argued with the show's producers over his sexual orientation. In the bootleg universe, Billy grew up to become a playboy billionaire, who landed on the cover of "Out" magazine.

1) Best Fan Film Ever!

I haven't really liked a fan film since Batman: Dead End, where the Dark Knight takes on the Joker, along with the Alien and Predator creatures. It's an audition reel for the Detention director, who can handle the special effects and the dramatic moments on a tight budget. I really want producer Adi Shankar to make The Punisher reboot, rather than see Captain America: Civil War, after watching Dirty Laundry.
