After Jon Stewart announced his retirement from his longtime position of host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, rumors surrounding his replacement started bopping up. The show's correspondents were all factored into replacing the iconic host, but most of the seasoned stars of the show ended up taking other jobs elsewhere. This week, though, we learned that the latest editions to The Daily Show's staff, South African comedian Trevor Noah has officially been named as Stewart's replacement when he leaves the show later in 2015.

"It's an honor to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at The Daily Show have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world," Noah said in an official press release from the network announcing the news, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "In my brief time with the show they've made me feel so welcome. I'm excited to get started and work with such a fantastic group of people."

The new host of the popular late night talk and news show also took to Twitter to share another comment on the news:

Meanwhile, the exiting Stewart seems pretty excited to have the 31-year-old comedian follow in his footsteps.

"I'm thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He's a tremendous comic and talent that we've loved working with," he said, adding that he "may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!! (via UPROXX)"

Noah made his on-screen debut on the show back in December, with the title of Senior International Correspondent. You can check out his first appearance on the show right here (via Slash Film):
