Francis Dolarhyde is a huge character in the 1981 Thomas Harris novel Red Dragon, which was adapted into two films, Manhunter and Red Dragon. Just like every other character from Harris' novels, the NBC horror series Hannibal from Bryan Fuller is sure to show audiences a different take on Dolarhyde, a.k.a. the Tooth Fairy serial killer when 2015's season three episodes premier in June. Actor Richard Armitage is the newest to take on the role, and a recent interview with the Hobbit star revealed some great details on what to expect from his character and more!

Speaking with Digital Spy recently, Armitage praised his new showrunner, Fuller and his cast members Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen and Laurence Fishburne, saying that they "just give it this elevation, so I knew that the bar was high when I went in there."

He also broke the news that he wasn't familiar with the show, but took the job because of the script and the executive producer.

"I wasn't familiar with the show, and even before I'd read the script I was already saying yes because it was Bryan Fuller. I just wanted to work with him," he said. "I suddenly realized that I was going back on something that I'd said a long time ago, which was that one of the genres I probably won't do is horror. But I just didn't see [the role of Dolarhyde] as horror, and I then went and watched Hannibal seasons one and two."

According to Fuller, Dolarhyde is a prominent force in the third season episodes, comparable to the main characters of Lecter and Will Graham.

"Most movies are maximum two hours long," Armitage said of the character exploration, "and we get six hours to really explore the fine detail of what it means to be a psychopath, and understand the roots of that, the birth of a child that turns into a monster. It's going to be very interesting."
