According to new reports, rumors and possibly some spoilers, Marvel has apparently narrowed its young actors shortlist for the new Spider-Man star down to two names: Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland. One of these actors could become the next Peter Parker, showing up in a cameo for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Captain America: Civil War, a standalone solo film, and even the next Avengers movie, Infinity War. You can find out a bit more about these stars and this news below!

This new rumor comes from Devin Faraci of Birth Movies Death, who used Twitter to break the story. Check out the tweet right here (via UPROXX):

Marvel has not confirmed this report, but it's still fun to consider these young stars as the frontrunners. Previous reports suggested Butterfield was the number one choice, but we've learned not to count Holland out just yet!

These two names originally appeared on the leaked shortlist which also featured Nat Wolff, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James. You can check out our previous coverage of this news right here!

While we're a little bummed that these actors could miss out on the role, Butterfield and Holland hold their own qualities that they can bring to the role.

Asa has the experience and possibly even the draw having starred in Ender's Game and Hugo. Our only real concern is his physical capabilities.

Butterfield is the bigger name while Holland holds a bit more mystery, thus some wiggle room for Disney to negotiate. It's always a little more of an attractive casting for studios when a star is unknown. Plus, Holland has In the Heart of the Sea coming out later this year, so we could see plenty of buzz around him anyway. Marvel might want to capitalize on this early!
