We're pretty excited about Marvel and Sony finally casting their new Spider-Man for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after months of rumors, but how did the studios decide on 19-year-old Tom Holland? We're not sure when we'll find out which young actor on a rumored short list of stars will officially be named the new Spider-Man star for Marvel and Sony, but one talent is sharing some great evidence for his case. According to new reports, rumors and possibly some spoilers, Marvel has apparently narrowed its young actors shortlist for the new Spider-Man star down to two names: Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland. We recently reported on an actor short list that Marvel has compiled for casting the role of Spider-Man, a.k.a. Peter Parker in the upcoming Cinematic Universe movies including a standalone film, Captain America: Civil War and other Avengers projects. This list included Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James, but given Marvel's history of casting leading actors that weren't on original lists (Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc), we're not too surprised that Disney XD star Billy Unger might be in the running now! Earlier today, we compiled a list of 5 actors we thought could replace Andrew Garfield as the new Spider-Man after the recent Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios partnership to bring Peter Parker to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to a number of sources, after Marvel and Sony decided to team up to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and its Phase 3 movie schedule, Amazing Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield has turned down the opportunity to return as the web-slinging comic book hero.
