We're pretty excited about Marvel and Sony finally casting their new Spider-Man for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after months of rumors, but how did the studios decide on 19-year-old Tom Holland? Well, according to new reports, Holland blew the producers away in some secret screen-tests with Avengers and MCU stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who he'll appear alongside of in Captain America: Civil War via a cameo role before his own solo reboot film in 2017, directed by Jon Watts. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland beat out a total of over 1,500 actors vying for the role, which really came down to him and Charlie Rowe (via IGN). What set him apart from the rest was his individual screen-tests with Evans and Downey, which were also secret, like most of Marvel's doings.

We previously reported that Rowe had been taken off of the actor short list, but that speculation has since been proven wrong.

Also, the screen-test was held in May of 2015, in Atlanta, which is where Civil War is currently filming. Apparently, Parker and Tony Stark share some scenes together in the upcoming movie, so it was important to gauge the actors' chemistry together (via Gamma Squad). From there, the producers asked for another screen-test held earlier in June.

It went well for Holland considering this casting news. Plus, he was the only actor on the short list to test with the Avengers stars.
