Though Joss Whedon (Avengers: Age of Ultron)'s run on the comic ended back in 2008, The Runaways are back in Marvel Comics' event, Secret Wars. The brightest super-powered teens have to survive the prestigious Doom Institute in Runaways #1, writer Noelle Stevenson and artist Sanford Greene

As we previously mentioned, Secret Wars features the Marvel superheroes from alternate realities coming together to meet in an epic standoff. The Marvel's superheroes and super-villains will be forced to defend themselves for the survival of their universe. There will be no Marvel Universe, no Ultimate Universe, or any other, just Battleworld.

Created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, the Runaways were a group of super-powered teens who discovered that their parents are actually super villains.  The parents are part of an evil crime organization known as The Pride. Refusing to accept their fates, the children of these super villains steal weapons and resources from their parents. When Vaughan and Alphona left in issue #22, the Serenity writer/director and artist Michael Ryan took over until issue #30.

In the plot synopsis, classes, exams, detention in Battleworld is run by a diabolical super villain. The final exam  at the end of the semester is a brutal match to the death. Super powered teens Molly Hayes (Runaways), Jubilee (X-Men), Bucky Barnes (Winter Solider), Cloak & Dagger, Amadeus Cho (New Warriors), Skaar (the son of Hulk and Caiera the Oldstrong) and a few new faces have to find a way to cheat their test. If they survive the horrors of the Secret Wars, the team just might learn a thing or two.

In an interview with Marvel, Stevenson explains the similarities between the original and the revamp, "It follows roughly the same concept as the original: finding out that your caretaker isn't who you thought they were, that they're up to no good and subsequently that they don't actually have your best interests at heart, but in an entirely different context. In this case, it's an escape from a corrupt institution."

The Lumberjanes scribe refuses to name the evil headmaster though, "It's a mystery! It's] someone pretty bad, probably."

We mentioned before, we have 5 reasons why we're rooting for Miles Morales' survival in Ultimate End #1.

Runaways #1 will hit stores June 17, 2015.
