Spider-Man Reboot New Actor Casting News: Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland & New Names on Marvel Short List

We're going to find out who the new Spider-Man actor is in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Captain America: Civil War, but until then we have plenty to report on what actors are in the running for the reboot. With each passing week since the Marvel and Sony deal to create a new Peter Parker for new films took place, we've been naming young actors that are in the running for the role. Now, it looks like frontrunner Asa Butterfield still has to worry about Tom Holland and others that just showed up on another short list for the role. Add Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer, and Charlie Rowe to the list of stars that could breakout as the next Spidey!

According to sources speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, our original short list of young actors has dropped to two (Holland and Butterfield) but now raised to six in total!

"The actors were flown to Atlanta for the tests; that is where Marvel is currently in production on Civil War, the movie in which the character will be introduced before going on to headline his own hopeful trilogy that will be made by Sony Pictures," the website says, also claiming that there's a chance that none of these young stars could be picked (via Slash Film / IGN)

Apparently, a decision could be made very early this week!

Yes, Butterfield is still one the list, so we could still consider him the frontrunner for the role, but we might take the fact that more names have been added to the short list as a sign that maybe Marvel isn't really into Asa anymore? We could also say the same thing about Holland.

Charlie Rowe starred in The Red Band Society on Fox and is maybe the most recognizable out of the new names.

Charlie Plummer had a recurring role on HBO's Boardwalk Empire.

Meanwhile, Judah Lewis will next be seen in Jean Marc-Vallee's Demolition later this year and Matthew Lintz stars in Pixels with Adam Sandler this summer.
