We're not entirely sure what happened with director Josh Trank and his departure from the second Star Wars Anthology spin off films. Was he fired or did he really quit one of the biggest opportunities of his life as a filmmaker? According to a new interview, Trank is sticking to the "quitting the project" story, but is astonished at how people are still talking about his departure a month later. While speaking with the LA Times recently, the director explained that he thought he wouldn't have to deal with this news anymore, but was seriously mistaken.

"At first I was like, 'I'm just not going to say anything because it will blow over. But I was shocked - it just hasn't blown over," the director said, according to Slash Film.  "People get so excited to raise their pitchforks. I knew that this was going to be questioned and it was going to come under skepticism as to why I left Star Wars. And it was hard. It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make in my life."

Though we might think otherwise, Trank explains that he still has a great professional relationship with Lucasfilm and that he and Simon Kinberg, who got him the job, "have become closer friends through this."

Whatever the case, Trank seems to be pretty content with deciding to leave - if that was truly why he departed from the project.

Some rumors surrounding the director suggest that he's hard to work with, when he gets to the movie set. That's right, apparently he's a nightmare director that is lazy ... but if you've seen his films, he definitely gets the job done.
