China has a knack for banning anything fun. First there was Google. Any chance the Chinese had of using the most prolific search engine on the net has long since been taken away from them. More recently, a bunch of Animes have been prohibited from appearing online in China. One of those is the popular Attack on Titan series. According to Kyodo, China shut down eight websites with Animes that they say encourages juvenile delinquency and glorifies violence and sexual content. One Ministry of Culture official, Liu Qiang, claims the ban preserves the sanctity of the younger Chinese generations. He says he wants to "protect the healthy development of youth."

This isn't the first time this year China went after some of the country's most popular media destinations for Anime. Sites such as Blood-C and Highschool of the Dead were all shut down. The reason for that was pretty much the same as this one. They said these sites and shows "lure minors to delinquency and glamorize violence, pornography, and terrorist activities."

In the current Attack on Titan banning, Qiang says the sites in question are under investigation:

"The list is the result of evaluations by investigators, reviews by the ministry and the opinions of experts. It aims to guide websites in the proper review and importation of comics and animations," Qiang said.

These won't be the last bans the Chinese youth will be seeing either. Qiang then went on to say more content will be added to the blacklist. Offenders who continue to carry any "offensive" titles will have their business licenses revoked.

Other popular Animes banned in China are Terror in Resonance and Death Note.

Do you think the Chinese government is doing their people a disservice by banning all these popular titles?
