WWE's 'The American Dream' Dusty Rhodes Dead at 69

MStars News has learned that a WWE legend is gone. According to SB Nation, Dusty Rhodes. aka "The American Dream," died at the age of 69 today in Orlando, Florida.

WWE revealed that the wrestler died on Thursday and gave no further details on his death. Rhodes, whose real name is Virgil Runnels, was part of WWE for years, even working with the younger talent in Florida. A statement from the WWE reads as follow: "WWE is deeply saddened that Virgil Runnels, aka "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes - WWE Hall of Fame, three-time NWA Champion and one of the most captivating and charismatic figures in sports entertainment history - passed away today at the age of 69. Runnels became a hero to fans around the world thanks to his work ethic, his impassioned interviews and his indomitable spirit. Moreover, Runnels was a dedicated father to WWE Superstars Goldust (Dustin Runnels) and Stardust (Cody Runnels), a caring husband and a creative visionary who helped shape the landscape of WWE long after his in-ring career had ended. WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Runnels' family, friends and colleagues." Rhodes' career started in the 1970s where he worked at WWE, WCW, ECW and TNA. The 2007 WWE Hall of Famer was a three-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion after working part time as a wrestler, while booking promotions in the 90s. Rhodes leaves behind his wife, Michelle, two sons, Dustin Runnels (aka Goldust) and Cody Runnels (aka Cody Rhodes and Stardust).. He also is survived by two daughters, Teil and Kristin.  Shocked fans and colleagues mourned via social media.
