Lionsgate Home Entertainment is bringing the critically acclaimed Slow West to DVD and Blu-Ray. In this behind-the-scenes clip, co-stars Michael Fassbender, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and director John Maclean discuss the genre of country western and the film's interpretion.

As we previously mentioned, though the scope definitely looks like a Western, this movie has reviewers thinking it's so much more than that. You can expect the usual violence, but the story works more like a thriller more than anything. With a fairy tale feel throughout, the creative 2015 film won the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

According to the plot synopsis, in search of his fugitive girlfriend and her father, 16-year-old Jay (Smit-McPhee) heads west across the 19th-century American wilderness. Along the way, Jay ends up meeting Silas (Fassbender), a mysterious traveler who protects him from the savage and lawless elements. But is Silas really watching out for Jay? Or is he tied to the band of desperados tracking them? Every step west brings Jay closer to the truth, which will lead to an epic, bullet-laced showdown in this quintessential Western.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the X-Men:Days of Future Past actor reminisces how he became involved in the project, "He came to me. We'd always been talking about genres, ever since we made [2009 short film] Man on a Motorcycle and realized how much we enjoyed working together and wanted to do it again. And by the time we got to [2011 short film] Pitch Black Heist, he started telling me about Slow West, which had been incubating in his mind. I clearly wanted to act in a feature film that he would direct. He's so original in terms of his visual storytelling and I wanted to do whatever I could to help get that originality out there. He went off and wrote the script and we workshopped it a bit together."

The special features include a making-of "On Strange Land: Making Slow West" featurette and deleted scenes.

Slow West arrives on Blu-ray, DVD on July 7, right after Independence Day.

Readers, are you excited to add Slow West to your movie collection?
