John checks up on Gretchen and finds a patient chart in her chair. Gretchen wants to make sure the dead gang member's kid is safe. While Gretchen visits her little project, John spots a cop car outside his home.

After noticing his son is distressed, John is told by his wife to get some sleep. Gretchen's friend calls her because he needs money., but she doesn't have any. Looking around the rough neighborhood, Gretchen finds herself lost.

Bridget (Lauren Stamile) calls John about the morphine and needle she saw. Things get worse as Detective Holden (Brent Sexton) shows up at John's door. The detective shows John a bloody crime scene and photos of the gang members. John pretends not to know any of thumbnut he's not fooling anyone.

Holden continues to interrogate John during their car ride to the police station. After knocking on so many doors, Gretchen finally spots Elio, who cringes when someone touches him. In the bathroom, Gretchen discovers Elio is being held hostage.

John's father calls Samantha (Beth Riesgraf) because he's nowhere to be found.  In the Interrogation Room, Holden grills John as if he's a suspect. After asking questions about Antwon, John finally snaps and yells at Holden.

Gretchen fights her way to get Elio out of the room. Unfortunately, she ends up tapped while Samantha discovers her husband has been arrested. Holed has discovered a pattern, which links John back to Antwon's father.

Holden wants John to become his informant, but John refuses his deal. John reveals he has a substance abuse problem after his daughter's death.  Holden then calls Bridget, which confirms John's substance abuse.

Gretchen crashes her car into the truck but gets a gun pointed at her. Elio defends Gretchen and ends up in the protection of the gangs. As Samantha comes to the rescue, Holden doesn't buy John as a user. John doesn't care who comes into his hospital, he just wants to make sure everyone stays alive.

John tells Samantha that it was all a misunderstanding and it's over. John meets with his father, who warns him that he's trying to control a world that can't be controlled.

Gretchen gets a call from her friend, who's in holdup. She warns him not to talk to the police.
