The NBA's current commissioner, Adam Silver is trying his best to make the NBA a female friendly place and his latest revelation only helps that. According to Silver, he no doubt sees a woman coaching in the league one day. He says it's possible that the first female coach could be Becky Hammon. Right now, Hammon is currently an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs and she coached the team to a summer league championship on Monday. After her big win, she and Silver texted and e-mailed each other back and forth. The commissioner then publicly spoke highly of Hammon.

"No different than for me coming up in my career. Unless you're given those opportunities, you're never going to show your ability to be successful," Silver said. "So I'm enormously proud of her, and I'm enormously proud of the players who've quickly seen that she's a top-notch coach and have been willing to follow her."

Hammon was hired by the Spurs coach Gregg Popovich last summer. Since then she has assisted him with coaching responsibilities. Running the team's summer league was one of those responsibilities. In her coaching effort, the Spurs lost their first game and then won the next six. She helped the team beat out the Suns.

Silver then went on to say that Hammon being coach is a reflection of the times.

"I think just like we've seen enormous change in our society, just in the last decade, I think that's another ceiling, another barrier that will be broken," Silver continued. "And it takes women like Becky being out there. You need pioneers, and there's been other pioneers before her, but I think you couldn't ask for more of a complete package in terms of former player, student of the game and someone who's able to work within a strong organization like the Spurs."
