Marvel has announced the new ongoing Spidey #1, which will be a part of the All-New All-Different relaunch. This series, created by writer Robbie Thompson and artist Nick Bradshaw, will take one of the most beloved superheroes back to his beginnings: before Peter Parker was the Amazing Spider-Man, he was just a teenager struggling to balance great power and great responsibility.

Mentioned in Entertainment Weekly, it seems that the series is aiming to capture the nostalgia of the early Spider-Man era while bringing a fresh, new take on the character. "Everyone remembers their FIRST Spider-Man comic," says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso in his statement. "SPIDEY aims to be perfect as someone's first Spider-Man comic, or their one thousandth. We're not looking to re-tell stories here. What Robbie [Thompson] and Nick [Bradshaw] have put together is an exciting new take on Spider-Man at his arguably most iconic incarnation, and will feel fresh to new and old fans alike."

Though Spider-Man's high school incarnation is well-known, there is a younger fanbase that never got to actually experience Parker at this stage in his life. According to Editor Nick Lowe, "Out of the 700+ issues of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, Peter Parker was only in high school for thirty issues! Stan and Steve covered a lot, but there's a lot of the high school and early super hero experience still on the table."

So while the older readers can revisit the version they grew up with, the younger readers can really relate to the setting. Established and familiar characters will appear alongside new characters that the team has created.

In addition to appealing to the younger demographic, this new ongoing could also be a way to tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU, starting with Captain America: Civil War, is planning to introduce a much younger Spider-Man at around 15-16 years old. Both moviegoers and comic readers will be able to enjoy the lovable loser Parker was in his early years, which is essential to understanding the essence of the character.

Spidey #1 will be on sale from Marvel Comics this Fall!
