Netflix has renewed their ambitious sci-fi drama, Sense8, for Season 2. Created by The Wachowskis (Andy and Lana Wachowski of The Matrix) and J. Michael Stracznski (Babylon 5), the globe-trotting cast of Sense8 joined together on social media to celebrate their show's renewal.

According to TV Line, the plot synopsis follows a group of eight individuals from around the world, all of whom are connected by a mysterious vision. Once connected, they are somehow allowed access to each other's skills, feel the other person's emotions, and acknowledge their deepest secrets. The cast includes Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill), Naveen Andrews (Lost) and Tuppence Middleton (Sinbad).

As The Verge reports, fans who had binge-watched all the episodes were starting to get concerned their show was actually going to get cancelled. Most Netflix original series, including Marvel's Daredevil, get renewed or cancelled right after their first release. Because the longest wait has typically been around a month, fans were eager to hear any news since Sense8 came out over two months ago.

The cast announced the news early Saturday via Twitter and released a celebratory online video. On the show, August 8 happens to be the birth date of all eight characters. That's why the announcement for the sophomore season was held off by Netflix until August 8.

In an interview with Variety, during the show's Television Critics Association panel, Straczynski describes the format of the show, "We wanted to do a show that was really for adults and grownups. There's a tendency for science fiction to be seen as something other than for adults. It tends to be the McGuffin, the device, the gadget, the gimmick, the mission and not the journey so much. And we thought we want to make this show about the journey. We want to make it about adults, deal with adult issues transgenderism, identity, privacy all these things that are right now the topic of discussion."

The cast has been signed on for a five-year plan. Let's see what happens in the sophomore season. This critic has seen the Netflix sci-fi drama and recommends the show. Though some of the episodes lag due to a few dragging moments, the payoff is highly satsfying.

Sense8 has been renewed for Season 2.
