The sci-fi drama, Humans, airs its first season finale on AMC. In Episode 8, with the death of Dr. George Millican (William Hurt) looming over them, will Leo (Colin Morgan) be able to save  Anita/Mia (Gemma Chan) as the deadly conspiracy has captured her and the other Synths?

Surrounded by Niska (Emily Berrington), Max (Ivanno Jeremiah), and Mia/Anita, Leo realizes he is inside a hospital room and tied to his hospital bed. Hobbs (Danny Webb) demonstrates how he has taken away Fred (Sope Dirisu)'s free will and turned him into an obedient slave. Fred wants to hurt Hobbs but his programming won't allow him to.

Whiile under house arrest, Laura (Katherine Parkinson) knows she has to help Leo and the others. Joe (Tom Goodman-Hill) is reluctant to help, but when he sees his son pleading with him, he changes his mind. Though Max is dying, Beatrice/Karen (Ruth Bradley) will not help Leo because executing the code should not be in the hands of Synths.

Pete Drummond (Neil Maskell) shows up at the house and realizes he may need Mattie (Lucy Carless)'s help to find Beatrice/Karen. After stealing a laptop from evidence locker, Pete drives off with Mattie and her brother. Knowing the police officers screwed up, Laura says she wants to make a call to Hobbs.

Mattie finds video inside her laptop, which reveals Leo's memories of Beatrice/Karen and the others. Just as the surgeon is about to make the incision on Mia/Anita, Laura shows Hobbs video evidence that Leo and his tribe are conscious and have memories. Laura promises to release the video to the press if he doesn't let them go.

Hobbs finally makes the decision to let Leo and the others go. As Mattie and her brother leave, Pete Drummond holds onto the laptop to protect them and get back at Hobbs. Beatrice/Karen quickly realizes that the release of the Synths was just a distraction.

Before the Synths arrive, Laura and Joe have a heart-to-heart talk. After revealing her past and Tom's death, Joe  says he still loves with her and he undertsands her pain. With the kids reunited with their parents and Synths, their get-together is short-lived.

The code within Fred tells Hobbs where the Synths are headed. With the police on their way, Laura and the others make their getaway, heading straight towards the robot protest. After hiding inside an abandoned church, Fred is taken down after he is discovered as the traitor.

Knowing Max is dying, Beatrice/Karen agrees to help them. The reunited Synths link their minds together, slowly realizing Beatrice/Karen set them up. Using herself as a virus, Beatrice/Karen is about to deliver the death blow; she changes her mind after seeing Leo lying in pain. All of a sudden, Max wakes up and he is back together again.

Knowing the program is too much power for them to handle, Niska gives the hard drive to someone the group can trust, Laura. Realizing his friend is compromised, Max says his goodbye to Fred, promising they will meet again. Niska separates herself from the group before they make her escape. Beatrice/Karen finds herself reunited with Pete Drummond, who understands her loneliness.

As life returns back to normal, Laura hides the hard drive in her bedroom and enjoys herself with her reunited family. When Mattie mentions something is missing from her bag, Laura's eyes suddenly open wide.

Niska is far away, riding on the train, as she holds a copy of the program in her hands.
