An arrest has been made in the stabbing death of Morgan Freeman's step-granddaughter, E'Dena Hines, 33. According to NBC New York, police arrested Lamar Davenport, 30, after he fatally stabbed Hines in Manhattan early Sunday. Davenport, Hines' boyfriend, has been charged with second-degree murder. Fox News claims Hines was stabbed following an attempted exorcism.

Police found Hines unresponsive in front of her apartment building on West 162nd Street in Washington Heights, after being stabbed at least 16 times.

The granddaughter of Morgan Freeman's first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A witness named George Hudacko saw the horrible stabbing from his third-floor apartment and called 911, describing the violent attack as Davenport allegedly yelled to Edena, "Get out, devils! I cast you out, devils! In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out!"

"The girl was making a lot of noise, screaming," Hudacko added. "I called 911 - I was begging them to come."

The New York Post claimed that police officers "had to physically restrain Davenport" after he continued to attack Hines' motionless body. One officer said that the 30-year-old "was still making a stabbing motion with his arm, but he had nothing in his fist - the knife was jutting out of her chest."

Davenport, an aspiring actor and rapper, also goes by the name of "Lyric." He has a history of abusing cocaine and other drugs, along with alcohol. Hines' murderer and boyfriend was previously arrested a number of times for marijuana and petty larceny.

Ray Rosario, a musician and friend of Hines, just had dinner with the couple and others the night before the stabbing attack occurred.

"I've never seen Edena as happy as she was last night," Rosario recalled. "I'm still trying to come to grips with what happened ... I'm caught between the hate I have for [Davenport], my love for him being my brother, and my heart breaking for her."

Freeman released a statement over the weekend that read: "The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

The Lucy actor also wrote to fans on his Facebook page, thanking them for their "tremendous outpouring of love and support."

I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. -M
