After 7 gripping seasons, The Shield is getting a new 4K conversion. The critically acclaimed FX drama, starring Michael Chiklis (Vic Mackey) and Walton Goggins (Shane Vendrell), will be getting a new DVD and Blu-Ray release date in 2017.

According to IGN, Sony and Fox are set to convert the gritty cop drama to 4K. The Shiled was filmed on 16mm rather than digitally, which why creator Shawn Ryan and the executives thought his show would be "the ideal candidate" for conversion. On his official Twitter account, Ryan made the announcement and described his top 10 reasons why he is enthusiastic about the 4K conversion.

With the FX show being converted to 4K for a new Blu-Ray DVD release, it will also be compatible with most streaming site, which will also be in 4K. The Terriers creator was hesitant as first as he tweets, "I was dubious going in since the gritty, grainy look of the show is so essential to its impact. But the tests really won me over."

Because The Shield can now live on in the digital age, Ryan thanks the fans, "Thanks to all Shield fans who clamored for this. Your voices were a big reason why Sony/Fox decided to move forward with this."

With the converted to 4K for a new Blu-Ray DVD release, it will also be compatible with most streaming sites that will soon be 4K.

As we previously mentioned, Chiklis will appear in the second season of Gotham in the series-regular role of Captain Nathaniel Barnes. In the upcoming season, Barnes is described as "a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies - on either side of the law. For Gordon (Ben McKenzie), Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon... but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy."

We have 5 reasons why we're missing Walton Goggins on Justified after the series finale:

The 4K conversion of The Shield is currently being planned for completion by March 2017, which also mark the 15th anniversary of the show's pilot.
