Controversies in the video gaming world pop up every now and then, but the animosity surrounding the Kickstarter funded title Star Citizen from indie developer Cloud Imperium Games is mounting with the company facing plenty of backlash after raising a ridiculous amount of money without sharing a release date or any other details in quite some time. When will we hear release date news on this highly anticipated title? This week, the developers shared some information on when to expect release plans, so keep reading to find out more.

We previously reported that a former backer of this project, Derek Smart, has launched a campaign against the game and the studio. He's threatening to sue the company if a release date isn't announced soon. You can read more on this right here!

According to a new blog post from a fan website called Imperial News Network (INN), an apparent plan for release has been laid out, but it isn't exactly a release date announcement. You can read this post right here for all of the details, but in short, the game is far from finished.

In a recent interview with our friends over at Polygon (via PC Gamer), Cloud Imperium founder Chris Roberts opened up about the progress of the game, explaining that Star Citizen will "speak for itself" once it does come out.

"We're open in our development. We have no buffer. We have no shield. And so we have to say how things are going. Trust me, I'd love to have the FPS out already. I'd love to have a bunch of stuff out already. But people have invested a lot of their hopes and dreams and money into this thing. I've invested a vast amount of time. We need to make the best possible game," he said. "We're running a live game at the same time we're doing all the R&D and production. We're still architecting some aspects of the basic game while parts of it are live. That's an incredibly high degree of difficulty."

As we previously reported, Imperium is open to refunding backers that want their money back, even though a refund isn't something they have to give. Read more on this here!
