WGN America has released new video and photos for Season 2 of Manhattan. Will Abby Isaacs (Rachel Brosnahan) and Louis 'Fritz' Fedowitz (Michael Chernus) end up being very frightened when Col. Emmett Darrow (William Petersen) makes his presence known?

As we previously mentioned, Manhattan is set against the turbulent backdrop of the mission to build the world's first atomic bomb, The first season followed the brilliant but flawed scientists and their families. Each member tried to coexist in a world, but their secrets and lies had a way of infiltrating every aspect of their lives.

The second season will focus on the events leading up to Trinity test. This is the first detonation of an atomic weapon, which happened 70 years ago. While Charlie Isaacs (Ashley Zukerman) and Abby (Brosnahan) embrace and struggle with their unexpected new power on the Hill, physicist Frank Winter (John Benjamin Hickey), doesn't know how his A-bomb should be used. Meanwhile, Frank's botanist wife (Olivia Williams) battles with the top-secret compound's new commanding officer (Petersen).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator Sam Shaw describes who Darrow happens to be, "Col. Emmett Darrow is a very mysterious figure who arrives at Los Alamos with an almost evangelical mission about what's going on there. A lot of the military figures in the first year of storytelling are attached to an old vision of what wars are and how they're prosecuted, and what it is to be a soldier, and what it is to be a civilian. This guy is, in his way, a real visionary."

Check out the exclusive Season Two posters from Deadline:

Shaw adds how Darrow will follow his vision, "A future in which America is able to export its values around the world. He has a clear-eyed vision for how this bomb will rearrange power dynamics around the globe. In a way, he's the first Cold Warrior in our show."

As we mentioned before, the Academy of Television Arts has honored the drama with its first Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Main Title Design. This also marks the first Emmy nomination ever received for original programming on WGN America.

Season 2 of Manhattan premieres on WGN America Tuesday, October 13, at 9pm. Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) hosts the Emmy Awards on September 20, 2015.
