Season 6 of AMC's mega hit series The Walking Dead will premiere in October, at which point we'll get to see the continuing adventures of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the group in Alexandria. But how closely will the show follow the comic book in the sixth season? [SPOILERS to follow]

Entertainment Weekly spoke to the comic's creator, Robert Kirkman, and asked him that very question. At this point in the television series, we're caught up to the 70s issues of the comic book series. Rick and his crew are settled into Alexandria, but things are starting to fall apart at the seams due to mistrust inside the community and external forces such as the zombies and the Scavengers.

So how closely will the books and the show fit together? Kirkman gave the answer you'd probably expect before he started talking about two specific characters that will diverge most from the books.

"I can’t tell you how closely season 6 will follow the comics! We have to keep people guessing," he said. "If you’re paying attention, the material around volume 13 or so of the comic series has been getting adapted into the show most recently, but we always reserve the right to stray from the source or even jump back or ahead and do things out of order. All that said, the biggest differences we’ll see revolve around Daryl, who was never in the comic, and Carol, who was long dead and never as cool as the TV version by this point."

Kirkman then went on to talk about another fan favorite character: Morgan.

"In addition to that, we have Lennie James’ Morgan, who is also very different (and cooler) than his comics counterpart. Having Lennie, who was such a huge part of season 1 and amazing every time we had him back, finally a regular part of this show is really going to energize this show for the coming season. And I would argue this show wasn’t really in need of reenergizing, so it’s just going to be that much better," Kirkman said.

How closely do you think Season 6 of The Walking Dead will follow the comic books? What elements from the comics would you like to see incorporated into the show? Let us know in the comments section below.
