Disney is cranking out even more interesting ideas from its vault and has decided to pick up on a new storyline with the very loveable singing British nanny Mary Poppins. It will be a live-action musical and "the studio is bringing back Into the Woods director Rob Marshall and producers John DeLuca and Marc Platt, who successfully shepherded Stephen Sondheim's Broadway tuner to the big screen for Disney last year," Entertainment Weekly says. The NY Times does reveal that Disney is merely in the early stages of the project and hasn't even started casting the iconic character of Ms. Poppins, a role that she will most-likely have to live up to the incredible talent of Julie Andrews, who starred in the original 1964 film.

This film, as stated before, isn't a remake or reboot, but more of a continuation of the story regarding the Banks family during Depression Era 1920s, "roughly 20 years after the original...Songwriters from Hairspray and Smash are working on a new score, and David Magee (Finding Neverland, Life of Pi) is working on a screenplay for the film, which will use material from the Mary Poppins book series by P. L. Travers," NY Times reports.

Although Disney has been looking to many of its older treasures for inspiration, this project is a bit different due to the fact that it wasn't originally an animated feature. This has received a lot of negative press as if the studio would have a lack of original ideas. "Disney...is remaking a slew of animated classics as live-action films...weathered Internet panic over development announcements before. In particular, news of a live-action Cinderella was greeted with similar angst, and that film, released earlier this year, ended up taking in $542 million worldwide," NY Times says.

We all look forward to a sneak peek whenever the first behind-the-scene footage occurs. In the meantime, a spoon full of sugar will help!
