Jay Leno is back on television ... as an Uber driver? No, not really, but he is back on TV. In fact, Leno is gearing up for the premiere of his new CNBC series Jay Leno's Garage. And to add some buzz to the show, the former Tonight Show host decided to put himself in disguise as an Uber driver and pick up passengers throughout the Los Angeles area.

Why? Well, apparently to see what they thought of him...

Making himself look like some sort of European evil villain, Leno dressed in all back and slapped on a bald cap alongside a semi-handlebar moustache and chin beard and took clueless passengers to various destinations in California, all the while discussing himself – in third person, of course – in order to see if anyone would get the joke and recognize him.

Naturally, from the video, no one did. Maybe that's because most people are too busy looking at their phones rather than their drivers' faces?

And sure, he had to toss in a little jab at former Late Show host David Letterman, asking one passenger who they would rather have drive them around: Leno or Letterman.

"Maybe Jay Leno," the passenger responded, adding that he'd be "more interesting."

You know, because of his chin. Which is a ... compliment?

Buckle up... Jay's coming to CNBC on October 7th! #LenoCNBC
