Just last month, LA Clippers' Paul Pierce told his teammates not to wear the signature sneakers of his rival, LeBron James. So the fact that Pierce himself refuses to wear them himself doesn't come as much of a surprise. In fact, Pierce refuses to wear any other NBA players sneakers, including those of Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant.

In an interview with Kicks on Fire, Pierce admitted that wearing a competitor's sneakers is completely off-limits: "I would never wear a rival's shoe. You know, LeBron's been a rival for years, Kobe [has been] in the Finals a couple of times," Pierce said.

"If anything, I would wear something neutral you know like... actually, not even Kevin Durant, especially now that I'm in the Western Conference. If I was still in the East, I might consider it."

At least he doesn't mind rocking a pair of Jordans or a throwback Penny (Pierce admitted to being a huge Penny Hardaway fan).

Clearly, Pierce takes his competition quite seriously, but can you blame him? The Celtics and Lakers (along with the Celtics and Cavaliers) rivalry was so strong back in 2008-2010, it only makes sense if the competition has left some open wounds. Add to that the time that LeBron James once said something along the lines of busting the ass of his competitors if they wore his shoes.

In the interview, Pierce also spoke on his sneaker -- the Nike Air Legacy -- bringing up the fact that Legacy was always a kid's shoe (which was done on purpose because Pierce wanted kids to have an affordable signature shoe as compared to LeBrons or Jordans). He also touched on the fact that there hasn't been a Nike Legacy 4, which is mostly because Nike isn't sure of when Pierce plans on retiring (even though the player has proved time and time againthat he can still play ball and is far from potentially retiring!) so they're putting more of their time and energy into KD's sneakers and LeBron's sneakers instead.
