This past July 4, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul almost destroyed his future with the NFL and the New York Giants as he blew off a few fingers, injuring himself during a fireworks accident in Florida. Luckily, he and the Giants finally reached a one-year deal on Wednesday.

As reported by ESPN, in the July 4 fireworks related accident, Pierre-Paul lost his right index finger, suffered burns and damaged other parts of his hand, which initially raised doubts about his ability to continue playing football.

The Giants had previously designated Pierre-Paul as a franchise player, although he hadn't had the change to sign his one-year tender offer, which was ultimately further delayed due to his hand injury. After a medical exam on Sept 7, the Giants initially had concerns regarding his ability to play, and were no longer interested in bringing him back at the franchise price. However, his follow up exam, which took place on Monday, proved that his condition was getting much better, as reported by SB Nation. On Wednesday, the Giants and Pierre-Paul finally came to an agreement, as he signed a contract, officially putting him back on the New York Giants' roster.

"I'm very excited to be back," Pierre-Paul said in a statement released by the team, as reported by Giants.com. "I'm getting ready to do what I have to do. I've been training down in South Florida with my trainer. Every day, I got up at 7:30 and lifted weights. I've been doing what I have to do to stay in football shape."

According to NFL.com, he will be getting a two-week exemption in order to return to a healthier shape, which means he should be on track for a November return, potentially returning on Nov. 15 for a matchup against the New England Patriots.

As far as his one-year deal goes, Pierre-Paul can earn up to $8.7 million with a low guarantee, but reachable incentives. There is also no franchise tag provision, which means the Giants are free to tag him again next year.
