Chris Pine has confirmed that he will be cast in the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. In an interview with Premiere, Pine shared little details about his role, but expressed his excitement about the project. It's rumored that the Star Trek star will play Wonder Woman's beau Steve Trevor, who is a pilot in the comic book series. Trevor crash lands on the island Themyscira, where he meets a group of Amazons and Princess Diana, who eventually becomes Wonder Woman.

"I'm not allowed to tell you much. I'm super excited, of course. Gal Gadot is super talented and (Wonder Woman director) Patty Jenkins is going to deliver. What excites me the most is to get to be in a film with a female superhero. With a woman in the lead role. I'm teamed with an intelligent, beautiful strong woman to destroy evil and save humanity. You know, the routine," said Pine, as translated by USA TODAY

His excitement can attest to the shift in fans looking for more diverse superheroes. However, the film has already received some backlash from its critics. Gal Gadot recently spoke with Interview Magazine about her understanding of her inability to make everyone happy.

"No matter what you do, you can never please them all," Gadot said. "People will always have something to say because that's the way people are. And it's okay. But for me, it's my job. It's my career. It's my art. Whatever I do, I take it very seriously and I do my research and I give it my best. I just want to be able to shine and inspire people."

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman will first debut in the upcoming Batman V. Superman film before starring in her own movie. With such an iconic role in her grasps, Gadot shared that she's more excited than nervous.

"Oh, my God, I'm so excited about this role," Gadot said. "I feel like I've been given a huge opportunity to inspire people, not only women. And not because of me but because of who Wonder Woman is and what she stands for. There's a lot of responsibility. But I have the best team and the best people to work with. It's going to be an amazing ride, knock on wood."

Wonder Woman is set to be released in 2017.
