It appears that Chloe Grace Moretz is set to bring her talents to a new version of Disney's The Little Mermaid! The famed classic is being retold, and it will bring with it the fan-favored actress.

At this point, not much is known about the remake, but the film has already had a drop out in terms of direction. Variety reports that The Little Mermaid was to be directed by Lost in Translation director Sofia Coppola. She, however, left the project duo to creative differences with the studio backing the project. The report suggests that "insiders" claim that Coppola's decision to leave the film was because she had an "unwillingness" to do the film with Moretz in the leading role.

The Little Mermaid won't be the first remake Moretz's name will be attached to. Back in 2013, the actress starred as the title character in Carrie, a remake of the infamous 1976 film of the same name, which was based on the novel by author Stephen King.

The upcoming Little Mermaid remake will reportedly be penned by screenwriter-director Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Pirate Radio), and will be backed by the likes of Working Title and Universal.

Moretz expressed her excitement over the project on Instagram, noting that she had been waiting months to unveil the news to her fans.

Check out the trailer for the original film, as a refresher, below:

So, readers, what do you think about Moretz stepping in to play Ariel? Will it be better than the original?
